This Spring & How to Style Them.

Spring / Summer 2010 is all about being outrageous with the elegance. There are trends of the past, but this spring, fashion is taking a big step in a new direction. It’s about smart and sexy looks paired with sporty and delicate styles.

Neutral Tones

Neutral tones create that elegant, barely there look. Champagne, beige and all shades of grey are in. Part of the reason why this neutral color style has emerged is because there is so much print and energy in other trends this season, which suggests that neutral will also outlive these other trends.

WARRIOR CHIC
At Alexander McQueen (top, left) the models wore hair-horns, strode along the catwalk in the famous ‘armadillo’ shoes and wore their dresses like armor. At Rodarte (top, right) the scene was a little more Mad Max. Models wore shredded dresses with interwoven leather and sported painted-on, tribal tattoos for a fierce look.

PATCHED DENIM
The ripped/distressed denim trend has evolved into patched denim, a look that was evident at both Chloe (top, left) and Chanel (top, right). While the designs at Chloe were a little more Western, with head-to-toe denim and a brown saddle bag, the designs at Chanel were a little more country. Models wore clogs (another big spring trend) and walked in front of bales of hay for a look that was all about the farmyard.

Ripped, Torn Denim

Although the days of torn jeans don’t seem too long ago, they’re already back! They hint towards a fierce, strong character similar to the military jackets that have been in the spotlight these last few seasons. A great thing about this trend is that fashionistas can manifest this trend with what they already have in their closet. Pair with a simple white tee.

Very Short Shorts

Hot pants and boy shorts are making this spring all about the legs. Pair them with knee high or over the knee socks for an unexpected sweetness to contrast with the super-sexy. Also, word of wisdom, don’t go too short. There’s a fine line between sexy and leaving little to the imagination. Hot pants, boy shorts, and tap pants are all variations on this shorter-than-short style, which in many cases reveal more than just one’s legs.

LINGERIE/UNDERWEAR
Although this isn’t the first season that this look has been prevalent, it certainly got a boost for spring. At Dolce & Gabbana (top, left) the entire outfit was about the underwear and the crocheted pieces had a seventies vibe. At Fendi (top, right), the look was slightly more subtle, with sweet underwear layered underneath sheer dresses, providing the viewers with a more toned-down take.

Masculine Elements

Blazers and vests are still in, but now they’re worn with shorts and leggings. Big shoulders are coming back as well, meaning that the 80s are now officially vintage. Why not play up the masculine tones with a feminine accessory like a hairband of a locket? It will add a little bit of tomboy chic to the outfit.

Feathers

Feathered skirts and feathered dresses are turning the volume way up this spring. Expect them mostly in mini-skirts and tiny dresses. Many of them are also in neutral tones. If it’s a skirt, pair it with a simple neutral tone top, but keep it simple. Feathers are theatrical enough.

Peek-A-Boo Denim Trend

Expect denim jackets to be peeking out from underneath leather jackets and oversized blazers. They’re a subtle nod to the 90s without overdoing it, seeing as how fashion has certainly had its share of flannel lately. It also adds a nice layered look that is casual and smart-looking.

Sportswear and Jumpsuits

Rarely do sports and high fashion have similar aesthetics. In Spring 2010, lace-up shorts, v-neck sweaters and fashion-conscious sweatpants make an effortlessly sexy and competitive look. Style with stripes and comfortable shoes for a casual date or night in.

I have a few things to say about this. First this is red done right her skin is perfect for this shade of red. All you spicy Latina ladies out there take note. She is hot hot in this Dolce & Gabbana at the The 66th annual Venice Film Festival. And trust me Italia took note.

Tip: With animal print a little goes a long ways consider trying just shoes, headband, or clutch with an animal print.

Rocker-chic looks are in for fall. Studs, rivets, big bold buckles, and chains will all be dominating boots, shoes, jackets, handbags, and other accessories.

The beauty line is just one part of a huge marketing push by Mattel Inc. to market Barbie as a fashion brand and includes new partnerships with Bloomingdale’s, Vera Wang, Jeremy Scott, IMG and the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

From the looks of these product pics the makeup appears targeted for grown ups, rather than kids or tweens. Somebody in marketing obvs has a sense of humor — the makeup line is called “All Doll’d Up,” and the skin care line is named “Plastic Smooth”.

I love Barbie so I’m pretty thrilled about this! I really hope the products perform well.
