How to pick the PERFECT perfume for you…

March 4th, 2009 by admin

TIPS ON HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT FRAGRANCE FOR YOU…

1. Shop for a fragrance in the morning - this is when your sense of smell is at its keenest.

2. Define your style and preferred fragrance family, whether is be classic, modern, sports, spicy, oriental, floral, fresh, woody, fruity or marine - then ask a sales assistant to show you fragrances that fit into the family of your preference.

3. Enlist expert advice to give you direction in what has become a complicated market. A few well-asked questions can tell an expert a lot about you. Generally, an expert will want to understand what type of fragrances you like (fresh, oriental, flowery) and how you use them (daily or in the evening). They can then help you find the perfect fragrance.

4. Try the fragrance directly on your skin. You may smell something on a friend, but you won’t know if you truly like it for yourself until you and wear it. Likewise with acid-free blotter cards, they’re fine as reference tools but scents need to develop uniquely with your individual chemistry.

5. Try three scents at the most, in parfum form wherever possible. Any more will overtax your sense of smell.

6. Always test the fragrance on pulse points, such as on the wrist and allow the fragrance to develop on your skin for at least half an hour.”

7. Remember that changes in diet or the use of medication may alter the way a fragrance develops on your skin/ If you love a fragrance but it’s too overwhelming, you may need to consider using a different strength, like a body lotion or try layering the product.

8. Ask for samples, then test them at home over a couple of days. Once you have tried something that really appeals to you, and it lasts well, you’ll know that it’s the fragrance for you.

How to make : Your Eyes Look Closer Together, Farther Apart, Bigger, Rounder or Oval

March 4th, 2009 by admin

  • closer together. Most eyes look better when the emphasis is on the outer corner of the eye (or the ‘v’). But emphasizing the inner corner will make eyes look closer together.Start by sweeping a light shadow over the whole eye area. Then dust a medium color on the inner half of the eyelid and blend outward to create a natural finish. Next, line from the inner corner of the eye to the middle & then blend outward.
  • further apart. If your eyes are less than an eyes-width apart, you can create the allusion of being wider set by keeping the inside corners of your eyes light and the outer edges darker. To do this, sweep a concealer one shade lighter than your skin at the inner corner of the lids. Blend well and don’t forget the gray shadowy areas on the side of your nose. Take a matte eyeshadow in a medium-to-dark shade and stroke it outward and slightly upward from the middle part of your lid to the outer half of your lid. Take eyeliner and start the line just a bit in from the inner corner of your eye, tapering the line up and out, just a bit past the outer corner of the eyes.
  • bigger. The key to making eyes bigger is to focus on light shades. Dark ones will make eyes appear even smaller. Sweep a light shade over lid, then shade the outer corner of the lid and the crease with a darker shade. Line the outer upper and lower lids with eyeliner making sure to taper a bit outside the eye (elongating it). Lastly, a dab of white or cream shadow in the middle of the browbone will make eyes pop. (A word of warning: make sure brows are perfectly plucked, otherwise stray hairs will stand out as if lit by klieg lights).
  • less…droopy. You can lift down-turned eyes with makeup. Apply shadow to the outer corner of the lid, extending color up and out like a feline shape. Add a light highligher color to brow bone and skip the eyeliner — it will only accentuate the ‘droopy’ contour. Apply mascara, concentrating on the inner corner of the eye. Lastly, you can try smudging a silver show on the inner corners of the eyes to help ‘lift’ them.
  • less deep-set. Those with deep-set eyes have prominent browbones. To downplay browbone, sweep a light or medium-tone shade on lid, then shade in a slightly darker shade above the eye crease. Apply eyeliner from the inside of the eye, making it thicking in the middle of the eye & then tapering it towards the outer part of the lid. Apply light highlighter shade to browbone. And lastly, here’s a great eyeshadow and eyeliner trick for Asian eyes
Since the eyelids of Asian women can seem to disappear when the eyes are open, you can add definition by sweeping a medium-toned shade across the lid & browbone. Dust under the brow with a light highlighter shade to accentuate the brow bone and then use a pencil liner to line the upper and lower lash lines. Make sure line is very fine and natural looking.

Spring 2009:Fashion trends from new york fashion week

February 17th, 2009 by admin

The Harem Pant

The Harem Pant is full through the hip and leg and banded at the ankel. How to make this work you ask…. making it work for you is simple: sandals, slim fitting tops, and the pants alone are enough  which means keeping your accesories to a minumum.

The Jumpsuit

Spring and Summer ‘09, it’s about jumpsuits!  Whats so great about it it’s casual-chic its  sophisticated and dressy– like the black boat neck number at Max Azria –The hottest key item will be the jumpsuit ladies.

The Abstract Patterns

The collectic mix of folkloric and abstract patterns  really come together.Colors clashed and came together in a enduring theam –  during New York Fashion Week. While the trend doesn’t  translate “throw on anything” it does however set a relaxed attitude towards fearless color mixing . Have fun with it.

Blazers

It’s not the typical suit jacket that caught The Adory’s eye on the runways, but the blazer thrown on over a dress, pant or even pair of shorts; not to create the look of a suit, but for a bit of casual ease, as if to replace the cardigan she usually thinks to reach for. Slightly oversized, and definitely not uptight, the idea of throwing a blazer over her bare shoulders come Spring and Summer ‘09 is something she’s sure to incorporate into her look.

Pretty Flower Prints

Spring is all about flowers! From the oversized flower worn by Carrie in Sex and the City to the print work we see in many of the shows for 09. Flower power bloomed into Fall ‘08 wardrobes, the trend continues with pretty watercolor prints that look like a Monet painting, abstract oversized patterns that hint at the flowers that inspired them, and everything in between.

Colorfull Crops

They are skinny they are just right about the ankel they are faboulous! But for Spring ‘09,  colorful cigarette pants to added to everyones closet. From hot pink at Matthew Williamson to red at Carolina Herrera, think bright pants paired with a neutral top and accessories … adorable.

Graphic Black and White

Every season has its own version of black and white. In Spring 2009, the positive-negative of black and white will pop up in everything from swirling florals and embroideries to boxy graphics.

The Slim Silhouette

The slim silhouette is beautiful . Whether it’s a fitted sweater over a skinny jeans, or a pencil skirt topped with a belted jacket, this one’s always a winner look. For Spring ‘09, there were several slim looks from a perfectly proportioned black suit at Charles Nolan to the shimmering off-white opening look at Tracy Reese.

Controlled Volume

A little here a little there is plenty of volume for Spring ‘09 runways. Designers kept it under control; sometimes with a belt or in other cases just because of the lightness and sheerness of the fabric itself. My favorite examples are the sheer jacket at Ralph Lauren, chic see through cover-ups at Philip Lim and Erin Fetherston, and belted blouses at Carolina Herrera.

Eye Candy Details

There’s more to the eye then what appears, and for Spring ‘09, The Adory keeps the following details on her radar: collarless jackets, trench and pea coat styling, bows and ruffles at the neck, defined waists, the belted shift dress or shirt dress, chunky necklaces and strapping.

That’s all for now :)

I especially loved the white big shoulder leather jacket (left) over the super feminine dress

Have You Tried The Aspirin Mask?

July 27th, 2008 by admin

THE BASIC:
Step 1: Take 6 uncoated aspirin and break each into halves. Put in a small cup or a lid.

Step 2: Add 3-4 drops of warm/hot water, and use a stick to smush the aspirin around. If it’s too dry and doesn’t dissolve, add 1 drop of water at a time until it forms into a thick white paste.

Step 3: Spread thickly onto your face. Leave for 10-15 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when bits of white powder start falling off your face.

STEP 4: As you wash it off with warm water, gently massage it into your skin. You’ll feel your skin to be very smooth and even.

STEP 5: Pat face gently dry. You should be feeling radiant and soft!
